Whats better building a home or modular homes?

I agree with David P. In this day and age there is not much difference between the two. It would seem that some modular's have smaller room sizes than a conventionally framed house, but that is due to construction and hauling methods used by home 'manufacturers'.
It really is a matter of preference and expense.
Best of luck!

Building a home is better by far. You can choose structure, layout, materials, and foundation base. A modular home usually has to travel several hundred miles with an unsupported outer wall and an unsupported roof line (if it is a double wide). Those factors put unnecessary stress on a new home even before it is assembled.

modular homes are better becuase they are pre-fabbed inside a warehouse. thus they are not subject to outdoor weather during construction.

Modulars may be constructed inside a warehouse, but then they get trucked down a road–subject to wind, bumps, swaying–all kinds of stuff that wreaks havoc on drywall.
Additionally, these homes are sometimes constructed more cheaply–floor joists every 19" instead of 16". The average home owner wouldn't recognize that type of thing.
I've heard a saying: We do three kinds of work around here: Good, Cheap and Quick. You can pick any two.
Modulars are cheap and quick. Stick built homes (if done properly) are Good, and sometimes quick, sometimes cheap.
You will get exactly what you pay for.

Here is the one major difference in modular vs. stick built. Financing! Banks often put modular homes in a category with mobile homes and log homes. This type of financing is often not available through certian lenders. Some lenders will only let you finance a home for 15 years as compared to a 30yr traditional mortgage.
